We’re dropping the Fleet Foxes reference to get your attention, but really J. Tillman’s (FF’s drummer) solo career (now 6 albums deep) really stands taller on it’s own two legs. If you’re searching for the perfect winter soundtrack, look no further. Tillman’s music exists on a ghostly singer/songwriter plane somewhere between Nick Drake and Ryan Adams. He’ll be commanding the stage Friday, November 13th with Pearly Gate Music and an as-of-late rare performance by Portland’s own Micah Blue Smaldone. Come in from the cold with us.

Death Vessel (largely the creative effort of Kennebunkport-raised Joel Thibodeau with a rotating cast of supporting musicians) will be releasing his long-awaited second release Nothing Is Precious Enough For Us, August 19th, on SubPop Records and that’s major cause for celebration around these parts.

Have a listen to a track from the new album: Death Vessel – “Bruno’s Torso”

Death Vessel with be hitting the road in late August for a month-long tour of the U.S. and Canada supported by longtime collaborator, Portland’s Micah Blue Smaldone, with a stop at SPACE on Wednesday, September 24. Past tours have seen Joel opening for the illustrious likes of Iron & Wine, Low, The Books and Jose Gonzales. We’re willing to wager that this new release will propel Death Vessel to even greater heights.

If you don’t already own it, Death Vessel’s first album Stay Close (originally released on Portland’s NorthEast Indie label) is an absolutely essential addition to your music collection. The album is one-foot-in-the-past-one-foot-in-the-future Harry Smith-inspired folk all run through with Thibodeau’s otherworldly voice and mysterious lyrics. You can still buy a copy of it on CD or a handsome vinyl edition which includes a bonus live track recorded here at SPACE from Immune Records.
