WITCHCRAFT BLUE is a new documentary about burlesque.  Sometimes called “theatrical stripping,” burlesque has a long history and has experienced a resurgence in recent decades.  Its growth in such cities as New York and Seattle is well known, but it’s also enjoying popularity in less populous regions, such as Maine, which is where this film is set.

One of the primary purposes of Witchcraft Blue is to give voice to the performers–mostly, but not entirely, women.  When you watch, you’ll hear from such performers as Ginger Rita, Iris Estable, Kinky Slippers, Kitty Kitty Bang Bang, Marilyn Melons, Mistress Fanny Pearl, Sundae Morning, and of course, The Incredible Mr. and Mrs. Fucksmart.  They describe what burlesque is and what it’s not.  They also describe their relationship to this craft, and its relationship to other genres as well as the wider society.

The backstage banter and onstage activity are often bawdy, and politically charged.  And the performers are often playful, even silly.  But they are also serious about what they do and their ideas about it.  Give them a listen and learn more about burlesque.

Followed by Q&A with filmmaker Michael Sargent and burlesque performers Kitty Kitty Bang Bang and Moxie Sazerac.
