Eli Sobel - The Anatomy Lesson

SPACE is pleased to present The Anatomy Lesson, an installation in the window gallery by Eli Sobel.

Muscles, veins, and organs help to regulate the internal functions of bodies. So, too, do the rooms and furniture inside of buildings. A broken sofa in a living room has a similiar effect on its surroundings as a pair of damaged lungs has on the intake and discharge of air. Both are critical to maintaining optimal health. When parts become worn out and stop working, they are often either replaced or more simply removed. SPACE's window gallery functions as a sterilized operating theatre for the dissection of the anatomy of a room.

Originally from Maine, Sobel has studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (BA, 2017), The Maryland Institute College of Art (BFA, 2015), and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2014). Currently he lives and works in the New England region.

Eli Sobel makes installations out of wood, ceramics, prints and photographs in which storage and appropriation are subject matter. He has shown within the United States, the Netherlands and Germany.
