Leon Benn and Seth Gass, with contributing artists.

Leon Benn and Seth Gass’ installation in SPACE’s main gallery/performance room is centered around the ethos and mystique of the dive bar, with the space transformed by elements and motifs commonly found in those watering holes. This work sparks a dialogue about the role of the dive bar in contemporary culture, and the parallel popular interest in places like these which provide a nostalgic representation of a heroic, idealized America. At the same time, this installation situates itself in the greater trajectory of kitsch, pop, and decorative art. The artists hope that the installation serves as both a critique of and an exaltation to the stigmas and associations surrounding dive bar culture.
