The Black Label Bicycle Club is a national network of seriously dedicated bicycle modifiers and riders. From the ranks of the Brooklyn chapter, the club has also spawned some outrageous DJs like Dirtyfinger, Stache and Porkchop who have been making loft parties and clubs all over the Boroughs sweat to a gritty mix of '80s Euro new wave, dancey edits of early rock jams, hip-hop booty bass and Latin soul classics. Dirtyfinger was recently named best Brooklyn DJ by NY Press readers. The BLBC DJs will be bringing their A game to SPACE to celebrate pal Tod Seelie's "Constant Quarry" photo show in our gallery. Brooklyn invades Portland tonight for the best party in town. For photographer Tod Seelie's gallery show this month, we've brought together some of Tod's closest musical friends to celebrate a great installation. Japanther returns with their bass and drum, proto-Ramones dance art show and Matt & Kim do the most fun drums and keyboards thing you're likely to see anytime soon, featuring tunes from their new album Grand. Tod Seelie’s life is an adventurous one, whether he’s floating down the Mississippi or Hudson River on art-raft journeys, shooting rogue taxidermy projects made from Chinatown garbage or touring on a veggie-oil converted bus.  Seelie is the go-to photographer for bands like Japanther, Matt & Kim, The Death Set, and Parts & Labor, and for years he’s documented urban bicycle culture, namely the Black Label Bicycle Club, who practice philosophies of avoiding wastefulness, rejecting consumerism-as-identity, and using creativity as a means for improving one’s life.

The Time of Rivers Festival focuses on exploratory stringed instrumental soloists with an emphasis on the guitar. There are however a few ensembles who round things out a bit and hopefully complement the other musicians. Last year's inaugural festival was a huge success with locals and visitors from all over due to the the diversity of the players and the various approaches to their instrument(s).

Last year Enterprise Records, our local (vinyl-only) record store reported that the Time of Rivers crowd --- both attendees and performers --- had a voracious appetite for interesting LP’s in all categories. So for this year’s Festival, in combination with Enterprise, we’re organizing a regular show and sale involving multiple dealers.

We have some solid dealers lined up, but there is room still for more and we are encouraging any potential sellers to get in touch with us. If you have esoteric records in whatever category to sell, this is definitely the crowd to get to.

The record sale will be at Space Gallery on the Sunday (Oct. 12) from 11 to 5, with the emphasis on LP’s. You might see some selection of ‘seven-inch’, but definitely none of those little shiny things.

And for those looking for interesting and hard-to-find records --- sell anything you don’t need and bring that cash to this year’s Time of Rivers Record Fair!

Jonathan Richman has been writing songs, making records and performing live for most of his life, winning fans and making friends around the world with his guileless honesty and playfully catchy compositions.  He began playing guitar at the age of 15, and in the early 1970s formed the Modern Lovers, whose raw, minimalist sound and emotionally forthright songs helped to lay the groundwork for punk rock. Over the years, Jonathan's music has absorbed a multitude of influences, from doo-wop to country to a variety of international styles, without sacrificing the artist's effervescent personality.
