Kid Congo Powers and The Pink Monkey Birds with Tiger Bomb and The Tarantula Brothers
8:00PM
In 1976, Brian Tristan was the 17-year-old president of The Ramones Fan Club. Today, he’s the man we know as Kid Congo Powers, legendary voodoo guitarist for The Gun Club, The Cramps, and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.
With his decade-old outfit, The Pink Monkey Birds, Kid Congo digs deep into his roots as a crackerjack guitarist playing the primitive music that inspired him: the raw sounds of early garage and Chicano rock. The songs are loud and fuzzed-out, dark and greasy, brash and boisterous, and psychedelic beyond belief. This is primal rock n’ roll at its finest, and there’s just nothing more punk.
Joining Kid Congo and co is Tiger Bomb,Portland’s own all-female rock & roll outfit featuring Chris Horne of Maine garage legends The Brood and Lynda Mandolyn of seminal Bay-Area riot grrrl four-piece Fabulous Disaster. Opening the evening is premeire performance of The Tarantula Brothers, a Portalnd duo crooning through a slimy sea of sloppy riffs on a boat made of big beats.
