Absu with Shabti, Hessian and Feral
8:00PM
The music of Absu has been described as mysterious, magical, majestic, powerful and progressive, with recognizable elements of death metal, black metal, thrash, Celtic, folk, jazz fusion, prog-rock, ambient, and psychedelic music. The band themselves has always dubbed their unique sound “mythological occult metal.” This style of supernatural music has earned Absu a strong cult-like status all around the world. Their allure lies in their ability to combine extreme metal with progressive overtones, classic song-writing, esoteric lyrical themes, and magnificent showmanship.
Since 1989, Absu have released six critically-acclaimed albums, along with over a dozen singles and EPs. They have toured the world many times over and shared the stage with some of extreme music’s most heralded bands: Entombed, Unleashed, Immortal, Vital Remains, Incantation, Autopsy, Sadistik Exekution, and others.
Absu makes their first ever stop in Maine on their Merelogical Nihilism Connexus Tour. The 42-city trek will see the band perform a brand new set with music spanning their 25-year career. It is the first proper American tour by the Texas-based mythological occult trio in three years and precedes the release of the band’s first album in five years.
Joining Absu will be the black/death metal trio Shabti (with new member, Brendan James Hayter of Obsidian Tongue), Portland’s occult heavy metal outfit Hessian, and Maine’s original black metal formation Feral (featuring members of Falls of Rauros).
