It’s been just over two years since Jason Molina passed on and his legacy has never been stronger. The man behind Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Company produced an unparalleled volume of stark and heartbreaking music. He recorded 19 albums in 15 years. He helped create Secretly Canadian, a label that has given life to the careers of Antony and the Johnsons, Bon Iver, Okkervil River, Phosphorescent, Sharon Van Etten, and many others. He inspiried a generation of songwriters, many of whom who would surpass his tangible accomplishments. He never acheieved mainstream success in his lifetime and then he disappeared. In his all-too-short career, SPACE Gallery was lucky enough to host Jason three times, in 20032005 and 2007

In celebration of his life and music, some of Maine and the seacoast’s finest will gather together to play his indomintable songs. Several of the acts are featured on the new Jason Molina tribute album, Through the Static and Distance, out on Burst & Bloom Records

“[Jason] was large and multitudinous: commensurately inspiring and frustrating, goofy and gloomy, spontaneous and studied, generous and self-absorbed, loyal and flaky, wise and naive, trusting and paranoid, outgoing and reserved, honest and totally full of shit, and every blessed and profane thing in between. And it’s all there in his music.”
— Max Winter (Songs: Ohia)
