Artist Talk: Karan Gelardi

Karen Gelardi, the artist behind Standard and New Factories will be holding an artist conversation about her show at SPACE and other works. The conversation will be an informal and intimate-scale open house where Karen can meet with collaborators and an audience about some questions and ideas that are a part of her own research gathering and practice. 

The conversation will be fluid with a focus placed on Standard while other topics may emerge. Karen intends to bring her research materials: books, interviews, articles and more that relate to her work, as well as a powerpoint presentation showing her process and inspiration materials and she works to map out her ideas and make connections to help explain her process. The gathering will be casual and aim to provide anyone interested with details regarding Karen’s work. 

Standard is a set of a 120 hand-sewn banners that incorporates a basic color palette and set of shapes which contrasts with the nature of the handiwork and natural materials. The exhibit aligns with the principles of the Bauhaus, combining artists and mass-manufacturing.
