Kids Fresco Painting
1:30PM
In this workshop children will be introduced to the beautiful fresco murals and the exciting lives of artists from early Italian painters to Diego Rivera. Through picture books and games, teacher Kate Hargrave will show us the unique process of making a fresco painting in the traditional way and share some of the murals being made today at the Skowhegan residency program. Then, setting to work, our class will begin a vibrant self portrait fresco. We will learn the basic proportions of the face and observe our own features. Each child will also choose a pattern with which to paint a small frame. After viewing a demonstration each will be given a pre-prepared plaster surface and paint, creating their own contemporary fresco – a bight and beautiful self portrait. We will have fun mixing colors and exploring the tactile surface of the wet plaster. Each round will be fitted with a wire hanger and the kids will bring home their own masterpiece to hang!
