Maine Mini Fest Workshop: “Embodying Transformation: Movement Artists & Restorative Justice Practices” (NOTE: NEW DATE AND TIME DUE TO WEATHER)

Sunday, January 14 2024
2pm
doors at 1:30 pm
FREE

***This workshop has been moved from its originally scheduled time. It is now taking place at SPACE on Sunday, January 14 at 2 pm.

What can movement training teach us about accountability, trust, and transformation? This free workshop will provide participants with a basic introduction to the principles of Restorative Justice and Emergent Strategy, and open up opportunities for conversation about dance as a transformative social practice. Through small group activities and whole-group circling, participants will be invited to align their creative work with practices of relationality and repair.

Join us for a free workshop hosted by Maine Mini Fest as part of weekend of celebration and connection for Maine’s dance community. The workshop will be facilitated by Halley Phillips of the Restorative Justice Institute of Maine.

The Maine Dancemakers Collaborative hosts the inaugural Maine Mini Fest in Portland on Friday, January 12th through Sunday the 14th. This weekend gathering will have dedicated time for Maine’s dance and performance community to network, attend workshops, get further training, see works in progress live, and attend a resource fair for dancemakers.

Mini Fest is a project of the Maine Dancemakers Collaborative, a new connective resource for Maine’s dance community.

SPACE will also host a free dance resources workshop on Sunday, January 14th at 2 pm.

See the entire weekend’s schedule, including satellite events at Mechanics’ Hall and Casco Bay Movers, and pre-register here.

Free and open to the public. Masking requested as a measure of community care — masks available at the door.

Maine Mini Fest is funded in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission, an independent state agency supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support for Mini Fest comes from National Arts Strategies through the New England Creative Community Fellows program, and from the Onion Foundation.
