Migrations: Poems

A diverse collection of poets who live in Maine will read and perform work that touches on the traces, tracks, and pathways of various kinds of migration. All of the participating poets have been featured in Deep Water, a weekly poetry column in the Maine Sunday Telegram selected and edited by Gibson Fay-LeBlanc.

Participating poets include

• Kifah Abdulla, who is a poet, visual artist, and teacher and was a prisoner of war in Iran for more than eight years;
• Linda Aldrich, Portland’s newest Poet Laureate;
• Samaa Abdurraqib, who, among many community projects, works with the For Us, By Us Fund, which builds capacity for people of color in Maine;
• Colin Cheney, who teaches at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies at the Maine College of Art and co-hosts the podcast Poet in Bangkok;
• LaLa Drew, who runs a poetry night for Queer and Femme People of Color and writes for Black Girl in Maine and the Phoenix;
• Dawn Potter, who directs the Frost Place Conference on Poetry and Teaching and is the author of eight books of prose and poetry;
• and Lee Sharkey, who is the author of eleven books of poems and whose work has won many awards.
