Beers Brosnan initially began as the brainchild of Maine native Matt Boldebook. With the addition of Nick Kafer on bass and Andrew Roseman on drums, Beers became a full-time power trio with the release of STAY (2023). With influences ranging from urgent to wistful, Beers sound pays homage to singer-songwriter stylings of Paul Westerberg as much as it does to the intensity of punk bands like Hot Water Music. With their new release Utopia & the Drugs Prescribed (2024), recorded and mixed by Scott Webber of local PigCat Studios and mastered by Will Killingsworth of Dead Air Studios, Beers continues to hone their craft and find their rhythms.

Snake Lips is an indie rock band out of Portland, Maine. Created by vocalist and guitarist Cody Mitchell, Snake Lips features a rotating line up backing musicians, including Pete Caradonna on drums, Tom Cook on bass, and Sam Ellis on guitar. Evergreen (2020), the band’s first album, is a DIY-release influenced by Mitchell’s love of DIIV and Alvvays. Melt the Sun (2021), a collaborative EP release by Maine label Repeating Cloud and the New York-based Totally Real Records, features skittery, up-tempo punk songs, while Mitchell approaches his subject matter with his trademark self-deprecating humor. Snake Lips released full-length Happy Anxious in 2022, showcasing a darker side of Mitchell’s songwriting, but maintaining the core punk-inspired song structures and tongue-in-cheek lyrics. All of Snake Lips’ albums have been recorded in Mitchell’s home studio.

The alt-folk/pop project from the mind of Portland songwriter Emma Page, Ladybrain sits with the surreal and the sincere, embracing both in a collage of dreamlike lyrical wanderings. Her forthcoming first album will feature a sonically diverse collection of songs about death, hope, and other timely subjects.

The frontman and songwriter of bleeding heart alt-americana post-punk institution Mouth Washington, Max Hansen is one of Portland’s stalwart stage presences of the past decade.
