The Belfast, Maine-based theater group counter/current:collective performs a staged dramatic reading of Caryl Churchill’s acclaimed 2002 play A NUMBER at SPACE.
What does it mean to be human? A father’s choice to clone his son has rippling consequences in this swift, beguiling psychological thriller.
Set in the near future, A Number follows Salter and his three sons—two of whom are clones of the first—and raises profound questions about the impact of parental choices on personal identity.
Based in Belfast, counter/current:collective creates adventurous, thought-provoking theatre productions and collaborative happenings that inspire conversation and create space for transformation.
This staged reading features accomplished actor and director Nat Warren-White and counter/current Artistic Director John Jurcheck as father and sons. SPACE is the Portland stop in a tour of intimate venues across Midcoast Maine.
The show runs about an hour, and will be followed by a facilitated post-show discussion with the artists.
