SPACE syncs up with Portland-based Out There Theater Company in August for a two-week, six-show run of The Last Class: A Jazzercize Play, an innovative production disguised as a real aerobics class happening in real time.
Ticket links for all six shows are below.
The play was written by Megan Hill and first produced in 2016 at the Off-Broadway venue TheaterLab in 2016, where it was acclaimed by critics and described as “Death of a Salesman in spandex, with laughs.”
Opening August 21, Portland’s Out There Theater Company remounts the play over a two-week run at SPACE, directed by company co-founder Joanna Clarke and starring Portland actors Kathryn Kellogg and Grace MacNeill.
Jazzercize is out. Zumba is in. But instructor Kelsea Wiggans is not going down without a fight. Armed with pep, a petition, and her conflict averse co-instructor, MJ Fray, Kelsea is determined to keep Jazzercize alive and thriving at the Portland Community Center. But is this one problem that’s too big to “sweat it out”?
The production will have standard audience seating. Each performance will feature guest participants pre-selected by the company who are also taking the class. Audience members will be seated and will not be asked to participate in the class.
