We Survive In A Capitalist Ecology

We Survive in a Capitalist Ecology is a collaborative flag project between Greta Bank and Scott Peterman. Inspired by historical Trade Union Banners, they layer iconic imagery in protest of global environmental and societal corruption. Capitalism as an ecology has developed for centuries, entangling the human species with a system that depends on exploitation to achieve exponential growth. The reality is that this system is failing and survival of all species on our planet requires embracing radical change.

Greta Bank and Scott Peterman live together in Hollis, Maine with their two daughters. They have collaborated on projects in the past including Godzilla Attacks for SPACE Gallery in 2011.

Greta Bank most recently completed a faculty solo exhibition for the Institute of Contemporary Art at the Maine College of Art in 2019 titled Parasitic Honeyshoes. She previously created projects for SPACE Gallery including Rat King; Ethical Supply Chain (2016), NSFW (2013), and CLEARANCE; The Four Horsemen (2007). She has exhibited at The Hunterdon Museum of Art and The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park among others. She was awarded an Emerging Artists Grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation in 2015.

Scott Peterman is a photographer who has exhibited at The Portland Museum of Art; Center for Maine Contemporary Art; The Farnsworth Museum; The Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art; The DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park; The North Dakota Museum of Art; The Center for Architecture AIANY; Colby College Museum of Art; Hampshire College Museum of Art; University of Wyoming Museum of Art and The Tate Modern among others.
