The Forest
The Forest is the creation of the first multi-sensory immersive environment based in a retirement community. Pamela A. Moulton and her multi-disciplinary team will develop this fanciful forest installation. Pamela will lead a series of intergenerational workshops where College and High School students partnered with Elders from The Cedars will create elements for the sense-driven installation. Casco Bay High School students in tandem with elders will create a multi-sensory environment in their school, during a one week intensive. The Project will culminate with a yarn-bombing at both The Cedars and CBHS. The Cedars will welcome other retirement communities to visit The Forest.
Elders will actively participate, make choices, and express themselves as practicing artists, creating elements for The Forest. Pamela and her team will work regularly on-site to open a window into a creative world for the Cedars Community. The onsite yarn-bombing, commandeered by Pamela, will be a sensation for the residents as their environment is transformed into a colorful knitted world. Elders as well as college and high school students will mutually benefit from intergenerational collaborations. CBHS students will spend a one-week intensive learning about multi-sensory environments, better understanding their Elders, and collaborating and partnering with Elder artists. The Cedars will welcome visiting Elders from neighboring communities to visit and experience this environment. We hope to prove the mutual benefits of partnering professional artists, youth, and Elders to help rethink our stereotypes of the aging communities.
