Michael Figueroa

info
October 2019 – November 2019

Michael Figueroa is a Cambridge-based (by way of South Florida) dance maker, teacher, server, performer, and director of Ruckus Dance. He has lived in the greater Boston area for 8 years. In that time, he's performed his work and the work of others at the Dance Complex, Green Street Studios, Out of the Blue Too, Aeronaut Brewery, Museum of Fine Arts, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, Tufts University, Dance Now Boston, Outside the Box Festival and College of the Holy Cross. Figueroa attended The Boston Conservatory and graduated with a BFA in dance.

In November 2019, Figueroa collaborated with five Maine-based dancers to debut an original work, This is why we can’t have nice things, at SPACE. This piece utilized the dancers ‘hidden’ talents and source materials including Youtube videos of Merce Cunningham classes, cheerleading competitions, slapstick comedy, and videos of clinical LSD trials.

Figueroa continues his exploration of authentic interaction, improvisation, and awkwardness through dance.
