Truth Speaks
Truth Speaks is a Black, Non-binary Trans Woman and Multi-Talented Artist located in Portland, Maine. Her career as an Antiracist writer and speaker started back in 2015 after witnessing several unjust murders of Black people in America take place at the hands of police. She first started writing for Black Girl in Maine where she discovered her new fondness for racial and social justice, including writing about white supremacy and her Black Experience in one of the whitest states in America. Truth stepped out of her 11-year Nursing career in corporate medicine in order to focus on issues impacting Black people in America, including Black Trans Women.
Truth’s work is a mixture of performance and visual art including modeling, dance activism, vocal performance, writing and acting. In 2020, she spoke on her first ever podcast with The Revelation Project- a womxn’s empowerment space dedicated to helping womxn remember who we are- speaking about “Decolonizing the Mind”. Truth now writes and creates content over at her paid-only Patreon platform and, as of 2021, has joined Speaking of Racism as a contributing writer. She is currently in Residence working on performance and visual art surrounding the war on Black Trans Women as well as Queer and Trans issues impacting Black folks and other People of Color. Truth, along with several other Black and Brown Queer and Trans performers, are planning to execute some Dance Activism throughout the streets of Portland using a variety of historically Black and brown dance styles rooted in their survival.
