Angel Olsen‘s voice —  evocative and stark, comforting and startling — is a remarkable instrument that’s brought her into collaborations with Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Marissa Nadler and others.  Now signed to Jagjaguwar, Olsen’s music is defined by many of the same signposts by which folk music first defined itself — resonant images, bold voices, deeply human tones. Pillars & Tongues, a Chicago trio, make intricate, and abstracted pop compositions that form a seamless blend of drone, classical, and ecstatic music.  Portland’s Lisa/Liza opens.
