Brazen Bandits – Conspiring For Our Survival: A Panel On Organizing In Maine
1:00-2:30pm
What is the state of Maine’s politics? Where are we going next? And what are some ways we can prepare, connect, organize and energize? Brazen Bandits hosts a panel of incredible trans organizers who can inspire/conspire us to move forward together. Panelists include Al Cleveland, Rose DuBois, and Olivia Orr.
Al Cleveland (they/them) is based on the unceded, occupied land of the Abenaki people in the city commonly known as Portland, Maine. Currently, they are the Advocacy Director at Democracy Maine. For the last decade, they have organized with young people to win transformative campaigns. From organizing around youth prison closure, bringing clean election funding to municipal elections, and campaigning for public power; Al is committed to building just, thriving communities.
Rose DuBois (she/her) is an organizer who has worked on a variety of electoral campaigns, including leading the No on A effort to protect Portland’s rent control law. She is currently the electoral director for Maine Youth Power, and the Chair of DSA’s National Electoral Commission.
Olivia Orr (they/them) is a graphic designer, local politics enthusiast, and LOTR fan. They organized with BESO (Bates Educators & Staff Organization) in an effort to form a wall-to-wall union at Bates College.
Brazen Bandits is a trans artist collective calling on co-conspirators to creative collaboration. The Bandits have transformed SPACE’s 534 Congress Street Gallery into an exhibition, performance, and community space through the month of January. As our environment becomes more openly hostile for trans and queer people, this is a space for reprieve, for connection, for making art, for raising our voices and spirits toward change.
