COMMUNITY EVENT: DRINK N’ CRIT

INFO
Wednesday, September 27 2017
6:30 PM

A community kayak center at Fort Gorges? A sculpture park adjacent to Thompson’s Point? A light rail down Forest Avenue? These are just a few examples of citizen contributions to Portland Society for Architecture’s (PSA) community engagement project. This summer, Portland Society for Architecture has been providing blank maps of Portland to citizens and asking them to write and draw what they want to see happen in their city.

PSA has been collecting the written and graphic data with the goal of creating a new vision and ongoing conversation about Portland’s identity. To date, we have generated over 200 personal “maps”, while engaging many of the diverse community groups across Portland.

Some of the results are visible at (many more to come): http://thecompletecity.com/results/

Please join us on September 27, 2017 for a public open critique and discussion of the effort so far, talking about what we did to get to this point, how we could do it better in the future, and where we go from here with everything we’ve gathered from the citizens of Portland. All returned maps will be also on display for the entire evening. The event runs from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm.

More about the Crit:

The Crit is a staple of an architectural education.  It is a process in an academic studio where designs are displayed before a jury and peers for critical examination and commentary.  Jurors selected for this event are community activists in the fields of transportation, planning and landscape, among others.

It’s a chance for public glory, brilliant theoretical discussion and slings and arrows if the work doesn’t measure up.  In normal life, this all ends once you leave school, but we’re bringing it back once again to Portland for architects, landscape architects, interior designers and other design fans.

Open to the Public.

You get what you deserve! We’ve added a second screening of Vera Drew’s riotous film The People’s Joker on Sunday, April 21st at 7 pm. Grab tickets now! Saturday’s screening SOLD OUT!
