Dawn of Midi
8:00PM
with Cookies and Pastel Sound Explosion
Listenable and insane. That’s the sound Dawn of Midi spent years shaping, culminating in their most mesmerizing work yet: Dysnomia. If anything, Dawn of Midi’s sets are as red-blooded and rhythmic as a seamlessly mixed DJ set, casting spells on crowds in the same way the group’s favorite experimental and electronic acts have for decades.
Formed in 2010 by Ben Sterling of The Mobius Band, Cookies bills itself as “a band specializing in popular music.” The group’s debut album, Music for Touching, is due September 9 and promises to live up to the description. Cookies rearrange the hooks and schmaltz of modern pop into a sound that’s both familiar and distinctive.
Pastel Sound Explosion is the panidiomatic improvisational trio of music school drop-outs Asher Platts (Theodore Treehouse), Sam Chandler (Lovers of Fiction, Theodore Treehouse), and Elliot McInnis (Butcher Boy, Where Is My Friend).
