Dessa with Brick + Mortar

Dessa, oft–described as “Mos Def plus Dorothy Parker” for her wit and flow, transcends the restrictions of genre to reveal a multi-platform voice, steeped in philosophy, jazz, spoken-word and hip hop. Known widely as a member of Minneapolis’ hip-hop collective Doomtree (P.O.S.), she’s been called “brilliant,” “keenly observant” and “a one-woman powerhouse.” Two solo albums, A Badly Broken Code and Castor, The Twin, laid the groundwork for Dessa’s most ambitious release yet, Parts of Speech, coming out this June. Joining Dessa and her band will be New Jersey-based duo Brick + Mortar (front-man Brandon Asraf and drummer John Tacon) who make raw indie rock with a kind of ferocious lyricism that’s gotten notice from places like Vice, NPR and Nylon.
