With Pilar Nadal
Join Maine artist, Eli Sobel, as he presents his findings on the evolution of architecture and objects for his print-based window installation. Sobel will discuss how these subjects gain, lose or remake their identities and connect to the exhibition. He is joined in conversation by Pilar Nadal of Pickwick Independent Press.
Originally from Maine, Eli Sobel has studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (BA, 2017), The Maryland Institute College of Art (BFA, 2015), and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2014). Currently, he lives and works in the New England region.
Sobel makes installations out of wood, ceramics, prints, and photographs in which storage and appropriation are subject matter. He has shown within the United States, the Netherlands, and Germany.
Pilar Nadal is the director and master printer of Pickwick Independent Press. Nadal has studied with David Wolfe of Wolfe Editions, earned her MFA from the Maine College of Art and her BFA from Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York. Most recently, Nadal has taught the art and craft of printmaking at MECA, New Hampshire Institute of Art, Southern Maine Community College, and as a Visiting Artist at Bowdoin College, NHIA, and Ithaca College.
Pickwick Independent Press is a community printshop located in the heart of the arts district of Portland. Pickwick has the facilities and equipment to create relief, letterpress, screen, and intaglio printing, and offers membership for printmakers, workshops, residencies, and commission work.
