The Gaza Monologues

***A second performance has been added at 4:30 pm on Saturday, February 3rd. RSVPs are available here.

Written by Gaza teenagers in 2010 and first produced by Ashtar Theatre, Ramallah, Palestine. Adapted, directed and produced by Fateh Azzam and Nat Warren-White. Performed by students at Casco Bay High School and Bowdoin College from Iraq, Syria, Tunisia, Somalia, Sri Lanka, and the U.S.

Co-presented by SPACE and Maine Humanities Council.

During the Gaza War in 2008-2009, more than 1,400 Palestinians were killed, mostly by Israeli aerial bombardment. Afterwards, Ashtar Theatre conducted a theater workshop with 13- to 18-year-olds in Gaza, which resulted in more than 30 monologues written by the teenagers.

The original production, by Ashtar as The Gaza Mono-Logues in 2010, was performed that year in Palestine as well as in New York City at the United Nations and La MaMa theater.

This program will be excerpted from the original text. Info and full text of the original production available here.
