House Show #6: Bright Boy
Future-soul beatmaking crooner Bright Boy joins us for SPACE House Shows, our weekly live stream concert series, every Tuesday night at 8pm EST on Instagram.
Bright Boy is the nom de plume of long-time Portland (and now sadly, Boston) resident Said Anwar Cato King. A fixture and true guiding light of the Maine beat music scene, Said’s own music moves through the futurist sounds of contemporary electronic music with a voice that can intone difficult truths poetically and soar with the best of the neo-soul paragons. Said is a regular member of live G-funk outfit Altered Gee, a frequent collaborator of Portland heroes Jaw Gems, a co-conspirator of Re;Sample, and the host of Beat Traffic. Never the self-promoter, Bright Boy’s official debut, Power Absolute finally came after years of quiet self-releases; it was released by Atlanta label Sneer Records in fall 2018.
These shows are member-supported and it’s because of our members’ generosity that we’re able to run this concert series and ensure that all performers are paid. We firmly believe in compensating artists fairly and these times are no different.
To further support this program, please donate to @space-gallery on Venmo during each concert and we will split these additional funds 50/50 between the artist(s) performing and re-investing in this series, so it can last as long as we’re unable to gather together in the same room again.
