Portland pianist and sonic-tinkerer Kafari brings forward a new body of compositions for this one-off live collaboration with animator and videographer Jay Brown, aka Dr. Scribbz. This special performance will be a full set-length dialogue between Dr. Scribbz’s technicolor animated riffs and Kafari’s meditative sonic lullabies.

A rhythm bones workshop will be led by Kafari in the afternoon at 3:30pm. Details here

Kafari is a synth, drum machine, and rhythm bones-wielding keys player, beatmaker, composer, and educator. In his expansive compositions, he melds disparate sounds from contemporary neo-soul to romantic classical, drum&bass electronica to boom-bap hip-hop, and burning jazz to hypnotic ambient.

Lisa/Liza is the recording project of Liza (pronounced Lisa) Victoria. A Maine based songwriter and guitarist. She has released three full length LPs to date, through Chicago based Orindal Records, those are Deserts of YouthMomentary Glance, and 2020’s Shelter of A Song

Liza’s dreamlike lyrics often return to thematic imagery of seasonal change, animals, nature as a source of reflection, and inspiration.   Liza’s lyrics conjure vivid images of everyday beauty: a dog rolling in the grass on a nice day; walking down a darkened street to meet the sunrise; robins filling up a field.

Her songs are accompanied  by experimental guitar instrumentals that pull inspiration from the likes of Michael Hurley, John Fahey, & Karen Dalton.

A Sonic Visions Fund commission, made possible by the Onion Foundation. For more information about the Sonic Visions projects, check out the SPACE Reader.
