Lovers of Fiction Album Release with Leveret
8:30PM
Lovers of Fiction is the amalgam of eclectic oddball USM music professor and opera composer Dan Sonenberg and three of his former students, all of them mainstays of the Portland music scene. They are Jimmy Dority of Mama’s Crowbar Piano Night fame, Sam Chandler of Theodore Treehouse, and Mark Dennis, formerly of The Waldos. The band plays high energy, song-driven rock & roll with elaborate vocal arrangements and their own contemporary sonic fingerprint. On the heels of a lauded ‘double A side’ digital single, they’re releasing Long Overdue, their aptly titled first full-length record.
Also long overdue is the first SPACE appearance by Portland slowcore mavens Perfect Hair, whose astonishingly immaculate self-titled LP is one of the most impressive debuts the Portland music scene has heard in some time. Tracked at Acadia Recording Company with Ron Harrity, its sparkling and intricate guitar work harkens back to the sounds of post-rock gurus Slint, Talk Talk, Gastr del Sol, Storm and Stress, and others, with a fresh and organic lens and a raw idiosyncracy that reeks of Maine.
Opening the night are the indie-electro-pop-garage-rock&roll darlings, Leveret, gracing SPACE for the first time as a four piece outfit.
