Maine Island Institute

Join the Island Institute, Monhegan Brewing Company, and local beer aficionados for the Portland launch of the Climate of Change short film series and a new summer blonde ale, “15″.  The Island Institute and MBC have teamed up to create “15,” a limited-release beer brewed in celebration of Maine’s 15 year round island communities. Just 100 bottles will be available in Portland at this event, with $1 from every bottle sold benefitting the Island Institute.The three films in the Climate of Change series explore the changing conditions in the ocean that are affecting fishermen in Maine and beyond. The screening will include a sneak preview of the fourth episode in the series, coming this fall. The Island Institute works to sustain Maine’s island and remote coastal communities, and exchanges ideas and experiences to further the sustainability of communities here and elsewhere. Monhegan Brewing Company was founded in 2013 by local residents (and fisherman) Matt and Mary Weber, with the aim of producing fine craft ales and attracting new visitors to the island.
