Next Atlantis : A Multimedia Collaboration
7:00PM
Presented in collaboration with Portland Chamber Music Festival, Next Atlantis is a multimedia rumination on Post-Katrina New Orleans with music for string quartet by composer Sebastian Currier and video by artist Pawel Wojtasik. The contemporary, immersive work is, in Currier’s words, “an elegy for a future that must not happen: New Orleans has been submerged under water.” The full program will include two additional short works by composers Guus Janssen and Anna Weesner. The performance will feature PCMF’s Jennifer Elowich and Miranda Cuckson on violins, Owen Dalby on viola and Claire Bryant on cello. Join us for a pre-event reception featuring classic New Orleans cocktails by Trey Hughes and Sean Wilkinson and an artist talk-back following the performance with Sebastian Currier, Pawel Wojtasik and the PCMF musicians.
PROGRAM:
Guus Janssen Streepjes (Streaks) – String Quartet No. 2 (1981)
Anna Weesner The Nearness of Things for Solo Violin (2004; rev. 2007)
Sebastian Currier Next Atlantis for String Quartet, Pre-recorded Sound, and Video (2008)
Presented with generous support from The Margaret E. Burnham Charitable Trust, Bernstein Shur, The Old Bug Light Charitable Foundation and Bull Moose.
