Oren Ambarchi with Chateau Mirage and Drab Pony

Innovative Australian guitarist Oren Ambarchi works in the cracks between several schools: modern electronics; improvisation; minimalism; hushed, pensive songwriting; the deceptive simplicity and temporal suspensions of Morton Feldman and others; and the physicality of rock music. It is music slowed down and stripped back to its bare bones, abstract and pure.
Ambarchi has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists such as Fennesz, Sunn 0))), Merzbow, Jim O’Rourke, John Zorn, Thomas Brinkmann, Keiji Haino, Charlemagne Palestine, Keith Rowe, Akio Suzuki, Phill Niblock, Evan Parker, and many more. Ambarchi has released numerous recordings for labels such as Touch, Southern Lord, Editions Mego, Drag City, Kranky and Tzadik. His solo release Sagittarian Domain was voted #1 in Spin magazine’s Best Avant albums of 2012. His latest release, Quixotism was listed in The Wire magazine’s top 50 releases of 2014. Oren will be joined by Portland’s resident weaver of sonic tapestries, Drab Pony (aka multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Robinson of South China, Plains, and Hersey State) and Chateau Mirage, the minimalist, sound-sculpture-based project of Zach Howard (Say John Earl, Awaas, Conifer).
