In this artist talk, goetz will host a participatory event in which visitors will engage in a conversation with the artist and one another using a set of speaking constraints. In addition to outlining aspects of goetz’s practice, the event seeks to build empathetic relationships.
goetz is a queer time-based artist building instructions for breaking down binaries. Supported by the 2017-2018 Dedalus Foundation post-MFA fellowship, goetz is currently working on performance & video pieces querying silent cinema, non-binary gender identities, and various unwaged labors. sair recieved their MFA from the Ohio State Universtity, and their BA in Visual and Media studies, Arts of the Moving Image, and Documentary Studies from Duke University. While sair’s true home is in the troubled state of South Carolina, they are currently pursuing research in the Bay Area, and active membership in CTRL+SHFT, a female/femme/non-binary art collective + non-profit gallery in Oakland, CA.
