Slant In Uniform

Join us for a very special Slant event at the Deering Oaks Bandstand to hear community members tell live, personal stories on the theme: In Uniform. In the dictionary ‘uniform’ is defined as ‘Always the same, as in character or degree; unvarying.’ – but add in a simple preposition and that meaning couldn’t be farther from the truth. Join us as we explore what it means to be In Uniform with stories of the countless ways in which the world surprises, amuses, stuns and completely baffles us by its sheer unpredictability.

Have you ever wondered what life is like as a traveling nurse? What it must feel like to walk into a house engulfed in flames? Or what thoughts enter a pitcher’s mind on the mound? Join us to listen to stories about what it means to be “in uniform” from Doctor’s Without Borders nurse Kathryn Norgang, Deputy Chief of Staff to US Senator Angus King Toby Guzowski-McGrath, Peaks Island interfaith minister Jean Martens, Portland Fire Chief Jerome LaMoria, and one more surprise guest.

Presented in partnership with The Telling Room.

For an easy dinner Portland food truck El Corazon will be at the park to feed us!
