What is rock ‘n’ roll?  Why is rock ‘n’ roll? Washington, D.C.-based iconic underground musician Ian F. Svenonius (The Make-Up, Nation of Ulysses, author of The Psychic Soviet and host of VBS.tv’s soft focus) has fashioned a piquant and intellectuallysubversive how-to guide for rock bands. Svenonious’s special insights on techniques for not only starting but also surviving a rock ‘n’ roll group serve as instructional guide, while doubling variously as a warning device, a philosophical text, an exercise in terror, an aerobics manual, and a coloring book. The volume features essays on everything the would-be star should know to get started, such as Sex, Drugs, Sound, Group Photo, The Van, and Manufacturing Nostalgia. Svenonius has visited SPACE before as a DJ and musician, but now we find him on a book tour, though it’s highly doubtful this will be a “just another author talk”.
