In this all too relevant documentary, Nashville’s music scene fights to save the iconic venue Exit/In from corporate takeover, amidst the larger struggles of local, independent music venues across the country.
With a post-film Q&A with NIVA (National Independent Venue Association) executive director Stephen Parker, moderated by SPACE music programmer Peter McLaughlin and Scott Mohler of Maine Music Alliance.
The Day the Music Stopped is a feature-length documentary film examining the decade-long struggle of independent music venues and the creative class they support against corporate developers and the largest concert promoter in the world, Live Nation. Taking place in “Music City USA”, this story is depicted through the lens of Exit/In, one of the nation’s most historic independent music venues. The film follows the club’s staff, the musicians who perform there, and their political allies as they work together to try save the club and fight for local, independent music venues nationwide.
