To Sleep As Animals

A narcoleptic detective is sent to the Nevada Desert to conduct an obscure research assignment at the behest of a shadowy organization. Once there, amid a fanfare of prostitutes and ghost towns, homeless men and casino lights, our man makes a series of bad decisions that leads, not only to the death of a friend and the endangerment of his cousin, but to total mental collapse, the dissolution of linear time, and quite possibly the loss of personal identity.

Join us as we bring Douglas Milliken‘s forthcoming novel to life.  Members of Lorem Ipsum will embody characters from the book, Mind Wheel will perform an improvised sound-collage and the refreshments of the desert will be curated by The Bearded Lady.

To Sleep As Animals is being published by Publication Studio

Publication Studio (founded in 2009 in Portland, Oregon) prints and binds books one at a time on-demand, creating original work with artists and writers we admire. We use any means possible to help writers and artists reach a public: physical books; a digital commons (where anyone can read and annotate our books for free); eBooks; and unique social events with our writers and artists in many cities. We attend to the social life of the book. Publication Studio is a laboratory for publication in its fullest sense—not just the production of books, but the production of a public. This public, which is more than a market, is created through physical production, digital circulation, and social gathering. Together these construct a space of conversation which beckons a public into being.”

Due to a performer’s possible Covid-19 exposure and rain in the forecast, the status of the July 25th Steve Gunn and William Tyler show at Greenwood Garden is unclear. We will update all ticket holders and the public on Saturday, July 24th with more information.
