Artist statement
The title of this work comes from a verse of a Buddhist text named The Bodhicaryāvatāra, often translated as “The Way of The Bodhisattva.” The text was composed by an Indian monk named Shantideva in the 8th century.

This particular verse is well known as a favorite prayer of His Holiness Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama & is recited daily by thousands of Practitioners world wide as a way of dedicating the merits of Their practices & activities towards the eventual cessation of suffering.

The verse is as follows:

For as long as space exists

& Sentient Beings endure

May I too remain

To dispel the misery of the world

_____________________________

“As Long As Space Exists” as a wall painting is an exercise in moving My work from drawing primarily on old book covers, in private and in small form to making these shapes on a larger scale, on walls and in a somewhat public zone. These factors, along w My long held fascination with repetition as a means to witness how shapes morph and shift thru time, are what hold the greatest interest for Me.

_______________________________

I would like to dedicate the work to Jon Courtney, without Him, this place called Space, would not exist.
