SPACE is pleased to announce a new window installation featuring artists and activists from Portland Outright in collaboration with PRIDE Portland

Youth organizers from Portland Outright have created Queer and Trans Youth Demand Justice Not Jails, a new installation in our window gallery. The text-based work draws from Portland Outright’s current organizing and references historic queer and trans activist work. Portland Outright, in conjunction with Maine Inside Out will have launched a campaign to close Longcreek, Maine’s only youth correctional facility by the time the artwork is in place. This window installation is an opportunity for the young folks working alongside Portland Outright to address criminalization from the seat of personal experience with an LGBTQ lens on occasion of Pride Month.

About

Portland Outright uses arts-based activism as a tool to address injustice, communicate across barriers created by incarceration, and to build collective action. Collaborative visual arts projects and publications are a platform for our organizers to share their experiences and vision of justice—with each other, stakeholders, and the community at large.
