PORTLAND OUTRIGHT WINDOW TAKEOVER FOR PRIDE PORTLAND
Portland Outright
In the Window
Designed by Portland Outright artists/organizers, this window installation honors the legacy of LGBTQ+ youth organizing. It highlights historic examples of direct action artwork, combined with pieces by Outright members who use arts-based community organizing to connect with each other across systems while working towards justice and liberation.
From Stonewall to ACT UP, from the streets of Portland to the backrooms of Long Creek Youth Development Center, queer and trans young people on the frontlines of struggle, have always been the heart of Pride. We are building the world we know is possible—one moment of care, one act of resistance, one installation at a time.
Portland Outright is a youth-driven organization building the power of low-income LGBTQ+ young people through intersectional organizing for gender, racial, and economic justice. Our work is led by young, queer, trans, people of color, and their allies from low-income communities in Maine who address homelessness, criminalization, racism, and health issues from the seat of personal experience.
