STEADY WORK

Will Sears, Pat Corrigan, Josh Luke, Kenji Nakayama, and Jimmy "Spikes" Birmingham

INFO
Sep 4, 2013 – Oct 19, 2013
In the Main Space

Working hard to perfect their lines, the artists included in Steady Work, Will SearsPat CorriganJosh LukeKenji Nakayama, and Jimmy “Spike” Birmingham, employ themselves as sign painters; a tradition that is experiencing a renaissance of sorts after a sweeping replacement of hand painted signs for faster, cheaper vinyl and digitally printed signage. In a world where mass production trumps the hand made object, sign painting as a trade is almost a novelty. The high level of craft and technique involved means that these signs cannot be produced quickly; they are works of art worthy of contemplation in their own right. Steady Work offers a glimpse into the methodology, aesthetics, theory and practice of contemporary sign painting.

Major support for Steady Work comes from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Applications are now open for the Maine Musician Relief Fund! Click here to read the FAQ and apply before November 2nd.
