The future is a work in progress.
WIPA (Works in Progress Association) is a national collaboration of artists, thinkers, organizers, designers, printers, media makers, foundations, and cultural institutions working together to advance bold, affirmative ideas about the future.
This project operates from the premise that culture can gather us all around a shared agenda to not only survive the storms, but to imagine and build something better. We’ve chosen key topics that go after the causes, rules, and systems underlying the very real problems we live with today. And while the work ahead may be tough, there are solutions within reach.
Our ever-growing network of artists, designers, and regional printing hubs, channeling our campaigns into bold public art across the country. On view in the SPACE Window Gallery, facade, and wheat pasted around town are 32 prints by 28 artists as part of the inaugural launch of WIPA. The inaugural WIPA Artist cohort is: Amos Kennedy Jr., Anonymous, Atlan Arceo-Witzl, Billy Baumann, Clay Hickson, Cody Hudson, Dio Cramer, Erik Brandt (Maine), Erik Ruin (SPACE commission), Geoff Kim, Jenny Schmid, Jex Blackmore, Josh MacPhee, Julia Arredondo (Maine), Kristen Liu Wong, Mark Pernice, Nick Adam, Nick Pizaña, Nicole Marroquin, Piotr Szyhalski, radical emprints/ Nicole Mangenelli (Maine), Ryan Duggan, S. Cav., Simone Noronha, Squiche, Tess Havas, The Masses, and Timo Lenzen.
Like the prints and want one for yourself? We have thousands to give away for free, come in during gallery hours (Thurs-Fri 12-6 pm or Sat 12-4 pm) or during an upcoming event and ask us!
SPACE Gallery is proud to be one of the four founding “hubs” of WIPA alongside Public Media Institute/Co-Prosperity Gallery in Chicago (the originator of the project), Confluence Studio in Minneapolis, and BULK Space in Detroit.
