Alias and Why? 09.20.08 SPACE Gallery

FROM THE PORTLAND PHOENIX blog:

Whitney Art Works

Brendon Whitney, the Portland resident better known as Alias – super-talented, well regarded, and humble DJ/recording artist on the excellent San Francisco label anticon – has been blowing up in my bookmarks of late. His first official solo album in five years,Resurgam, hits the streets at the end of August, and indie blogs are aflutter with comments on his new material.

Pitchfork premiered Alias’s excellent new track (“Well Water Black”) with one of his most notable labelmates, WHY? (coming to SPACE Gallery in September, on the heels of his fantastic album, Alopecia), a couple of weeks ago. And subscribers to Stereogum’s “‘Gum Drop” newsletter received another new one, “Crosswalks,” in their inboxes on Wednesday. The song didn’t make the cut for Resurgam, but if you sign up for the newsletter, you might get a retroactive chance to download the song and read an interview with Alias, wherein he acts sheepish about his singing and recalls almost getting hit by a car.

Anyway, they’re both sweet songs, and consider us psyched for Resurgam, a local album of the year candidate if I every blindly predicted one.
