Have a Fucked Up New Year

No we’re not wishing you ill, quite the opposite.  With our first post of the New Year, we’re encouraging you to come blow out all that 2008 crust with Matador Records’ Fucked Up at SPACE on Sunday, January 18th with Portland’s Cougars Kill Cobras.  Fucked Up ended up on all sorts of people’s Best of lists for their latest record “The Chemistry of Common Life” which blends old school hardcore ala Black Flag and Minor Threat with flutes, bongos, organs and multi-tracked guitars yielding something, bigger, louder and sleeker.

Here’s a clip of them from their recent 12-hour (!) show in the Bowery doing Fucked Up originals “Black Albino Blues” and “Twice Born”: (Video Not Available)

And to prove that even indie darlings used to jump around their bedrooms to hardcore, here’s Ezra Koenig from Vampire Weekend joining Fucked Up on two punk rock chestnuts, Blitz’ “Someone’s Gonna Die” and The Descendents’ “Parents”. (Video Not Available)
