Paid Internship Opportunity! Seeking Front of House operations intern! Deadline March 14th

SPACE is thrilled to again be partnering with NIVF (National Independent Venue Foundation) on a national music industry internship program. It’s a rare program — maybe the first of its kind — and it’s paid!

VOX is a 4-month workforce development program for selected participants from under-recognized groups in the industry (BIPOC, women, genderqueer or genderfluid, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities), that are interested in careers within live entertainment venues. The program provides venue and job-specific training through a two-month paid internship in a local host venue, 15 virtual gamified training workshops, networking opportunities, and a simultaneous mentorship with an assigned industry expert.

The mission of the National Independent Venue Foundation (NIVF) is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of the independent live performance venues and promoters throughout the United States by supporting a transparent, competitive marketplace serving a diverse and inclusive community of artists, fans, and industry workers.

Who Can Apply? 

  • Individuals 18 years or older who are interested in production—including live sound, lighting, and other aspects of live performance venues—or those currently employed in entertainment venues seeking to expand or explore this career pathway and:
  • Live in or near one of the participating cities listed above
  • Has excellent communication skills 
  • Has a strong attention to detail with good work ethic 
  • Is able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Works well independently and as a team member 

Formal education or experience is NOT required!

If you are asked to interview, please note that interviews will happen between April 4 – 25. You will be contacted by April 25, 2025 with a decision regarding your application.

Requirements:

  • Must participate in the full length of the program which starts May 5, 2025 and concludes August 29, 2025.
  • Must attend the Participant kick off call on May 5 at 10:30am ET
  • Must attend the Venues & participants intro call on May 5 at 3:30pm ET
  • Must attend the Mentor & Participant intro call on May 21 at 1:30pm ET
  • The completion of 15 free virtual, self-guided training workshops. These workshops are approximately 1-2 hours each and include occasional check-ins with the Program Director or Program Coordinator. Examples of workshops include: Mental Health in the industry, Conflict-Resolution in the workplace, Intro to Events & Production Basic Terminology, Audio & Sound 101, Sound System Tech & Controllers 101, Monitor Mixing Techniques and Lighting 101.
  • Compensated local venue in-person work begins June 2 and continues through August 4

Compensation:

  • A portion of this program includes a part-time, temporary paid internship. Interns will earn $15 per hour or their state’s minimum wage (whichever is higher), working up to 12 hours per week for 8 weeks at an assigned local venue.
  • NIVF Certificate of completion
  • Assistance with resume building and interviewing techniques
  • Professional networking opportunities
