The Animation Show: Year 4

We pretty amped to be hosting the first Maine appearance of The Animation Show on Friday, June 27th.  The show was begun 4 years ago as a means of bringing the best and newest animation to audiences across the US in a package screening.  Originally co-curated by veteran animators Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head, King of the Hill & Office Space) and Don Hertzfeldt (Academy Award-nominated creator of Rejected and Billy’s Balloon.  If you are unfamiliar with Hertzfeldt’s work, you should really do yourself a favor and watch Rejected), Hertzfeldt has left The Animation Show, but Mike Judge is still at the curatorial helm.

Year 4 will include a fantastic variety of animation from around the world. While it’s not one of those completely raunchy animation festivals, it’s probably not intended for younger viewers, be warned. The directors suggest discretion along the lines of a strong PG13-rating.

Among the animators in Year 4 are Bill Plympton, PES, Smith and Foulkes, Dave Carter and Joel Trussell. Following are a couple of clips from PES and Joel Trussell, for your viewing pleasure. These are not the clips from Year 4, that would be spoiling the event. You’ll have to come on June 27th to see their latest.

PES – “Game Over” (Video Unavailable)

Joel Trussell – “War Photographer” (Video unavailable)
