Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali’s Un Chien Andalou (1929) and Robert Frank’s Pull My Daisy (1959) will be screened on 16mm, with time before and after to mix and mingle.
Un Chien Andalou is a classic European avant-garde surrealist film from the cooperation of director Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali. The film changed the way people made movies. Buñuel used to attend screenings with stones in his pockets, anticipating riots. (Fact: David Bowie screened the film before every concert on his 1976 Station to Station tour.)
Pull My Daisy is a short film directed by Robert Frank and Alfred Leslie, adapted by Jack Kerouac from the third act of his play, Beat Generation. Kerouac narrates the film, which features poets Allen Ginsberg, Peter Orlovsky and Gregory Corso, artists Larry Rivers and Alice Neel, musician David Amram, art dealer Richard Bellamy, actress Delphine Seyrig, dancer Sally Gross, and more.
