Asmr X Wazo: Streetwear Fashion Show

INFO
Friday, November 3 2017
6:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Providence artist, Nick Carter and Portland’s own youth collective Kesho Wazo present a new edition of streetwear at the intersection of punk and couture. Guided by an ethic of collaboration, youth empowerment, and de-professionalization, the line features all-over bleach patterns punctuated by patches of screen-printed imagery and sections of ‘upcycled’ clothing.

The full line will be presented in a fashion show on Friday, November 3rd during the artwalk from 5p – 8pm. Pieces will be available for sale during the reception and at SPACE throughout the winter.

Nick Carter is an artist, educator, fashion designer and community organizer living and working in Providence, Rhode Island.

He is currently the Apparel Design Coordinator at AS220 Youth — a radical arts education program focused on young people in the care or custody of the state — where he has worked since 2011.

His studio practice is based in painting but involves printmaking, sculpture, installation, clothing, performance, video, and photography. His pieces are often formal investigations of pattern, color, and material. However, their presentation has a phenomenological focus. Site-specific illumination and the shifting perspective of each viewer-participant collaborate to complete the work by activating and intensifying its mutable and trompe-l’œil aspects.

More of Nick’s apparel can be purchased here.

Kesho Wazo has been building a brand that redefines what it means to be a kid with ideas. At Space Gallery, Kesho Wazo brings those ideas into reality.

Kesho Wazo believes that what you wear can become your window into a world full of passion and creativity. Their fashion lines symbolize youthful energy that has the power to change the world. In the spring, Kesho Wazo hosted an event that mixed theater, hip hop, and fashion. Their latest hand printed shirt line and full album by Zaya Universe is called VOX and was released at SPACE during Waking Windows. It shows the power of emotions and finding yourself through times of pain and sacrifice

💥 Wanna start something new? The Kindling Fund awards project grants ranging from $3,000-$7,000 to Maine-based artists of all career levels — apply by November 24th!
