SPACE is honored to announce the recipients of our Maine Visual Artist Emergency Grants. We are deeply grateful to The Andy Warhol Foundation Regional Regranting Network and the Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel Foundation in honor of the Surf Point Foundation for this opportunity to redistribute funds to Maine artists amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe artists are vital societal resources, essential for the protection of culture bearing, free speech, and the advancement of new ideas.
More than 200 people applied but in order to make a real financial impact, we limited our distribution to 71 grants of $1,000 each. This is only round #1 — we are committed to offering artist relief and paid opportunities for artists as long as this crisis lasts.
As an organization, SPACE is also looking to expand relief efforts to musicians and performers. Consider this an appeal to support more artistic disciplines — if anyone is interested in donating and helping lead that charge in this effort, please email director@space538.org to discuss options.
