Check it out! Mitosis: Loquat x SPACE is a new collaboration and our latest merch campaign, featuring items designed and handmade by the brilliant Portland-based fashion studio, Loquat.
Loquat’s vision for the line began at the textile level, designing a fabric that both incorporated and dissected SPACE’s 2020 circular logo at the molecular level. The fashion duo, Jordan Carey and Madison Poitrast-Upton, then cut and sewed this accessories collection by hand, creating items in three colors: ocean blue, chartreuse green, and sky pink. While the initial plan was to create two bags and a facial covering, with sustainability in mind, the team used leftover fabric to make a final item: a version of their signature mask. Altogether, the Mitosis collection includes four objects – a handbag ($80), crossbody bag ($40), neck gaiter ($20), and mask ($18) – in three colors made to pop against the somber hues of a Maine winter.
All proceeds from the collection are split 50/50 between Loquat and SPACE. And when you purchase any item, you also receive a free year of SPACE membership. Already a member? Consider this donation a reinvestment in SPACE during our COVID-19 closure. Your funds directly steward SPACE’s digital programming, administration of our project and relief grants, artist stipends, and maintaining our 32 below-market-rate studios for Portland artists.
